Look at our beautiful new promotional materials!

Thanks to Officeworks Woolloongabba who generously donated a beautiful new P&C banner. The banner had its first outing at the Centenary Gala Reunion on Saturday.

Many thanks to Fi Cameron, Sybille Goss and Sally Dillon who worked so hard to put the banner together.

The fete poster was also a terrific collaboration. They are both fantastic advertisements for our P&C and the amazing work our families do to support their students’ learning.

The Centenary Project — celebrating 100 years of Buranda State School

Thanks everyone for your ideas.

We’ve had a range of suggestions, from an artist-in-residence, to more nature-play spaces (with running water and places to make bush art and cubbies), improvements to the environmental ed classroom (our veggie garden and chook pen) and a big outdoor clock.

If any of those ideas has sparked another we’d still love to hear your feedback. This is a great opportunity to come up with a project that helps your child, and future students, make the most of their time at school.

At next week’s P&C meeting we will also discuss sponsorship and plans for fundraising for the year. Please come along and be part of the conversation.

Membership of the P&C is free and is a great way to find out what’s planned for the school. It’s the place to come with great ideas or feedback on things you’d like to change.

We start meetings at 6.15pm sharp and invite you to come at 6pm to meet other parents and share a cuppa.

The next P&C meeting will start with a presentation from Roger Todd, consultant architect.

Roger was engaged by the Queensland Government to prepare a School Conservation Management Plan considering how the school’s heritage listing should be considered in any planning for the Site.

You can download the report from Roger's heritage website.

Uniform News — can you help?

We’ve had some questions about the decision not to stock the ‘winter’ shirt. Basically, the company that produced the heavier, poly cotton shirt (note it wasn’t 100% cotton) scored very badly on the ethical fashion report and is no longer an EQ approved supplier. Our new supplier can provide a similar option, a cotton-lined polyester shirt.

However, it’s not 100% cotton, which is what some families are looking for, and it seems to be only the younger grades that buy this shirt (we have a massive oversupply of ‘winter’ shirts in size 10).

We’d like your feedback on whether you’re only interested if it’s a cotton shirt, or if you really want the heavier shirt so we can consider our options. Please give us an idea of sizes and how many you’re likely to buy.

The new shorts are also having a mixed reception. Some kids love them (especially the extra zip pocket) but some don’t. Our problem again is that we had to change supplier and our current supplier only offers these drill shorts or a mesh style.

Our uniform shop coordinator can’t make calls during office hours. So, if you want to volunteer to call all the EQ approved suppliers to see if one of them can supply a style similar to the old ones (at the right price), please contact us at burandapandc@gmail.com. We’ll give you our guidelines.

Otherwise, you can always buy other styles of maroon shorts from chain stores.
